Rules section

Rules for participants and operators for the safe use of the harness equipment at DIGI Rink (D1)

by Revolutions Artistic Roller Sports Club Inc;

The harnesses acquired by Revolutions Roller Sports Club Inc are designed to make acquiring certain skills in the sport of Artistic Roller Skating safer and also reduce the amount of time taken to acquire these skills. Revolutions has decided that it will share this resource with the other clubs and coaches of Skate Australia and their members, so as to enhance performance outcomes for all skaters who wish to utilise the equipment. The entire project has been fully funded by Revolutions Roller Sports Club Inc, and the harnesses will remain the property of the club. We acknowledge the assistance and blessing of our Rink Operator in allowing this infrastructure to be installed at the Digi Rollerskating Rink facility. We also acknowledge Skate Queensland for working with the skating community and ratifying use of the harness with Skate Australia insurances.

    RULES.

    • All operators and participants must read the Standard Operating Procedure document before use of the equipment.

    • All operators must read and sign the ‘Operator’s Waiver’ and read/sign this document before use of the equipment.

    • All participants must read and sign the ‘Participant’s Waiver’ and read/sign this document before use of the equipment.

    • All jumps on the cable run harness must be executed toward the ends of the cable run, do not jump in the middle “third” of the cable. The central part of the cable has the most deflection and will not be as effective at preventing contact with the ground during a participant’s fall..

    • To cover maintenance, a fee of $25 per hour or part thereof (Discount for 3 hours+ available) is to be paid by other clubs to Revolutions (in advance) to obtain access. The cabinet access is controlled remotely via smart-lock and the cabinet can be locked or unlocked at will by Revolutions members with access. Clubs need to phone Revolutions on 0490 66 55 20 initiate lock and unlock, and Revolutions will call back at the end of the agreed hire time to ensure the cabinet can be locked. Cameras and sensors will record the cabinet and fixed harness (isle way). Cameras will not be able to see onto the rink skating area. Cameras are to ensure that all items are returned and stowed properly, and also guard against theft/damage at other times (public sessions etc). Cameras will take stills only, (no video), motion activated.

    • All participants must hold current Skate Australia membership in the ‘Artistic’ branch at either development or competitive level (ie, no hockey, Speed, derby, Digi staff or general public)

    • All operators must be current accredited Intermediate (or better) coaches and hold current Skate Australia competitive level membership.

    • On the cable run harness, a participant must not weigh more than 80% of the operator.

    • There are 2 harnesses available.

    1. A fixed harness that only lifts and rotates (Static roof mounted). Minimum requirement to operate is

to be an Intermediate coach or higher and at least 18 years of age.

    2. A cable run harness that can lift and rotate while under-way. Minimum requirement to operate is

to be an Intermediate coach or higher and at least 18 years of age. It is not acceptable for a junior or student coach to operate this harness even under supervision of an Intermediate Advanced or Elite coach or mentor

The operator must be an Intermediate coach or higher. The operator ’MUST’ be on skates as well.

    • The harness is designed for only one person at a time to participate (to be lifted).

    • The rope is designed to be managed by one operator (Namely an accredited coach).

    • The cable run harness is not a flying fox. Non-host clubs whose members are found utilising this equipment for this purpose or other intended misuse will find their access suspended or cancelled. Use of the equipment outside of the intended use framework goes against the Skate Australia insurance policy, which would render the offending club liable for any damages to the harness, Digi property and injury to persons.

    • It is the sole responsibility of the operator to ensure that all participants using the harnesses are current Skate Australia development or competitive members, that all members utilising the equipment have signed the rules and waiver and that these rules and SOPs are followed.

    • Each harness must be either secured or locked away after use (how it was found) and Revolutions notified by phone so that the cabinet can be remote locked.

All persons must complete this document prior to operating RRSCi Harness equipment. The equipment you are looking to operate is designed as a training aid to improve performance outcomes. The jump harness systems are not designed to be an injury prevention system, rather a mechanism for injury reduction. The use of the jump harness system in place is not without inherent risk. RRSCi thanks you for reading this document carefully.

TO: Revolutions Roller Sports Club Inc, Queensland (including its members, principals, agents and independent contractors), (collectively referred to as “RRSCi”): I confirm the following is true and correct and that RRSCi has relied on my answers in allowing me to operate the harness equipment and incidental to things including operating and controlling either the Static Spin Harness or the Dual Rotational Moving Harness (“the activities”). In consideration of RRSCi permitting me to operate the harnesses.

Express Voluntary Assumption of Risk
I understand that I, and each participant in the activities, will be engaging in activities involving a real risk of serious injury or even death from various causes including but not limited to equipment failure, accidents with other participants, spectators, floor conditions or other causes. I voluntarily accept all risks necessarily flowing from my operating of harness equipment, which could result in loss of life or injury to myself or the participant.

Liability Release and Indemnity
I hereby release RRSCi and all persons or corporations associated directly or indirectly with the conduct of the activities from all claims, demands and proceedings arising out of my participation and hereby indemnify them against all liability (including liability for their negligence and the negligence of others) for all injury, loss or damage arising out of or connected with my operation of equipment. This release shall extend to and include RRSCi and the organiser, partners, managers, officers, agents, contractors, any club, organization and volunteers including medical and paramedical personnel at any time, the owners, licensees, and occupiers of land on which the activities or any part of it are conducted or which is involved directly or indirectly with the activities in any manner whatsoever and promoters, sponsors and activities organisers. This release and indemnity continues forever and binds my heirs, executors, personal representative and assigns.

Equipment and Facilities Inspection
I agree that before I operate harness equipment, I will independently inspect the related facilities and equipment. I will immediately advise RRSCi of any unsafe condition that I have observed. I will refuse to operate any equipment until all unsafe conditions observed by me have been remedied. I acknowledge that reasonable safety precautions are undertaken by RRSCi, the installers and the manufacturers (such as equipment safety checks), but such are a service to me and participants and are not a surety of safety.

Protective Equipment
As a harness operator I hereby agree to ensure that all participants supply and/or wear a suitable helmet as the minimum protective equipment requirements at all times whilst taking part in the activities. RRSCi will make helmets available in various sizes, however for hygiene reasons, it is advisable for participants to bring their own helmets that are rated to the Australian Standard AS/NZS 2063:2008—Bicycle helmets. AS/NZA 2063:2008

Physical Fitness
I have independently assessed the activities and I am physically fit to operate the harness equipment and have not been advised otherwise by a medical practitioner. I do not have any possibly relevant pre-existing medical or physical conditions, which have not been disclosed to RRSCi and the activities organisers.

Medical Treatment
I consent to receiving any medical treatment, eg first aid

Personal Property
I hereby acknowledge that I have the sole responsibility for my personal property during the activities. I acknowledge the terms and conditions of this document are contractual in nature, are intended to have legal effect and are not a mere warning or recital. RRSCi is not responsible for my decision to operate RRSCi’s Harness equipment and I was not induced by RRSCi to do so. I acknowledge my registration is not transferable to any other person.
